leanne

Last Thursday we watched some audio/ visual video's. some I did not understand and others were really neat. one that really caught my eye was H2O by Ralph Steiner. Even though it is neither new or different, i really felt the music and saw the notes in the movement of the water. the waterfalls reminded me of piano chords and the music match the movement and splashes of the water in nearly every part. the swirling bubbles were neat to look at and let you see the motion of the music. the spirting from the hole in the pipe was a really cool thing to watch especially since it matched the spirts of music at that moment. the fluidity that followed the music as the pictures changed were astonishing and made it easy to go from one scene to the next with ease. the reflection images waved as if bonded by the music itself. i love how he even matched the music simulltaniously with the raindrops on wave filled water. the shapes he caught n the water reflections were amazing to watch. some of them you could tell they were grass blades and tree limbs, others were so odd that it appeared to difficult to recognize. one part had an almost silvery sheen to it. he even had some water images that he flipped the negative on, which was a truly awesome effect. it gave very different view of the same image and fit in nicely with the mix of pictures and music. this was an amazing audio visual mix and i recommend that should anyone have a chance to watch it, to definateley view it. it is worth more that the few moments it will take you to watch it.

visual/ audible combination

I have been searching for an example of a visual and audio combination that i felt was amazing. this was a difficult assignment for me because many of the things i see or hear has a powerful effect on me. I am the type of person that listens to music not merely for the tone and melody or beat as most of my peers seems to follow the message or feeling meant by the authors tone. i view movies in much the same way, what moral or message was the writer attempting to get me to see. paintings or visual art has the same effect i look for the message or the feeling that the artist was attempting to convey not by simply with their title but with their stroke or use of media. that is why this is so difficult to pick only one form that combines both visual and audio. but since this assignment requires that i pick only one and explain my choice i suppose i will have to choose something .

so i choose this, in the movie some kind of wonderful from the 80's there is a point where the tomboy who obviously has a crush on her best friend asks him to pretend she is amanda jones the popular girl he is taking out. She asks him to show her he can deliver a kiss that kills, in the beginning the music is nervous and eratic just as their heart beats are probably at the moment they are going to kiss one of their best friends. as the moment ignites passion between the two characters so does the movement of the music almost matching the intensity of the kiss. your emotion follows the beat of the music and intensity of the kiss. when the kiss breaks it shows her embarrassment because the kiss one that killed not literally but it was all that she wanted it to be the music dies down after that. i could show this on many movies not only with passionate but with anger, sadness, pain, pleasure, and joy. the artist's that create the music to match the moment have a job to make the music flow with the emotions the directer and producer want the audience to feel. just as its the cover artist of a novel wants to entice the reader to read, or the cover artist that wants the audience to buy the movie or record they take whats inside and pull it to the art on the front in many cases of movies or books but in music records they take the emotion from the records contents and place it on the front or find some vibrant eye catching image or design to attract the attention of the purchaser. in the 80's they used designs with geometric or vibrant colors to attract that attention. the era had a lot to do with the way they designed their covers for both movies and records for example you would never see a tie die cover in the 50's like you would in the seventies or a geometric design of the 80's on some country album in the 60's. so you see it is not easy to pick one instance or image or audio that meant something to me as there are many different sides to my personality or mood that allows me to feel one thing at one time or another that i probably would not feel at a different time. its a fact that as i get older i do not feel the same about movies or music that i did when i was say twenty or so. things that are important now was not important to me then and vice versa.

that is all i have to say about the visual/ audible combination blog assignment.

anime

my daughter is driving me crazy with anime! i mean i can see artistically why she is drawn to it and peer pressure has a part of it as well. but why does she need to be totally obsessed with it. the shows are not the only things she wants and sneaks to be involved in, its the drawing, the online chats involving anime, the movies, posters, pictures, basically anything anime but mainly focusing on inuashi sorry i have no idea how to spell it lol . i know it has a y in there somewhere but i am totally clueless. some of the underlying messages on it are very sad, death and fighting aside it also teaches them not only to question authority ( which i totally support) but fight it. or rather fight your parents. sorry not cool . if it was a hobby i could probably deal with it but its been a year now and the longer she is into it the deeper she gets into it. for example in the past few months she has been grounded from it because she has skipped meals to watch it and snuck on the computer in the middle of the night to get on the websites or draw or write in her journal about the characters. she has dozens of story lines that she has written for characters that she has drawn and named herself. which on a larger time frame would actually make me happy but she is failing school and not taking care of her body the way a newly developing teen should she is only 12 ( well almost 13 now) and i can see that she is hurting herself with lack of sleep and healthy eating. so we are taking her into the doctor after finding her huddled in the garage the other morning with her pictures printing on my laptop . not one or two pictures which would have pissed me off anyway but this was 250 pictures and my laptop is slow when not connected to a outlet so you can imagine that she had been up for hours and it was 530 in the morning. so no i am not happy and i am hoping the dr can help her because we have tried everything else.
